Pyrite Druzy on Ammonite Impression — Colombia
About This Specimen
This Colombian specimen preserves a partial ammonite shell impression in dark, unidentified host rock, with fine pyrite druzy sparkling across much of the surface. Curving ribs remain visible along one side, while the metallic coating produces brass-gold color with subtle multicolored flashes under direct light.

About Pyrite
Pyrite is an iron sulfide mineral recognized by its brass-yellow color, metallic luster, and hardness of 6–6.5 on the Mohs scale. Its formula is FeS₂, and it can occur as distinct crystals, granular masses, or fine druzy coatings; in fossil-bearing sedimentary material, pyrite may form around or within preserved biological structures.
Traditional & Metaphysical Associations
In crystal traditions, pyrite is associated with confidence, determination, prosperity, and protective symbolism. Fossil impressions are also commonly used as reminders of continuity, transformation, and the passage of time during display or intention-setting practices. Metaphysical properties are based on traditional beliefs and are provided for cultural and informational purposes; they are not scientifically established or intended as medical advice.
Why This Specimen?
The contrast between the dark matrix, densely sparkling pyrite, and partially exposed ammonite ribbing gives this compact piece appeal from several viewing angles. Its upright presentation and shifting metallic reflections make it especially well suited to a small display.
