About This Specimen

This miniature from Lulwe, Malawi features a tall, nearly black aegirine prism joined by a smaller angled crystal and several creamy-white feldspar crystals. The sharp color contrast, pronounced vertical form, and mounted presentation give the lightweight specimen a strong architectural presence; the feldspar is reported by the seller to be fluorescent, although its UV response is not shown.

About Aegirine

Aegirine is a sodium iron pyroxene that crystallizes in the monoclinic system and commonly forms dark green to black, elongated prismatic crystals with lengthwise striations.
